will hold a uniform tongue and a smooth groove. We plane the top of the flooring flat so that it has a nice tight fit, and put relief cuts in the bottom on every inch of the flooring to allow for shrinkage and also relieving some of the stress due to moisture fluctuations. This helps to keep the flooring flat rather than cupping or bowing. Before we machine the flooring we check that the wood has a moisture content at 8% giving the best results over the long run.
